Dress Code for Newmarket Races
The “Sport of Kings” was born in Newmarket, three and a half centuries ago. King Charles II started the town plate race, stating it must be run forever. To this day it is still staged on the same three and three quarter mile race course that was originally used three and a half centuries ago.
Ladies & Gentlemen have been attending this venue over all of that time, looking forward to the racing and the chance to wear their finest clothes, and for ladies to adorn such wonderful headwear, all with the expectation of maybe winning a few shillings into the bargain!
Hadleigh Hats has been supplying headwear for many years to ladies attending all sorts of events at Newmarket Race Course. We thought it would be a good idea to help those that are going for the first time with some guidance on dress code for Newmarket races.
There are two distinctive enclosures at Newmarket racecourse and they have very different flavours! Here are some extracts of the dress code for Newmarket races
Imagine you’re going to a wedding or a similar special occasion, that would be our best advice and dress accordingly. In the Premier Enclosure, both Ladies and gentlemen are expected to dress smartly.
The gentlemen might wear smart trousers, shirt and formal shoes. Most of the Ladies would choose to wear a hat, fascinators or hatinators. All of which adds to the splendour of the occasion.
GRANDSTAND & PADDOCK | GARDEN ENCLOSURES
In these areas the dress code is casual, more relaxed; jeans, t-shirts and trainers are permitted. Obviously, good taste is your guide in these areas, so no to t-shirts and swimwear, or slogans on shirts. Bare chests are not allowed.
